We are receiving an increase in reports about dogs being off leads in a public place. Please see below current legislation regarding this:-

If you're in England and Wales, there is no general law that says dogs must always be on a lead in public. However, owners must keep their dogs under control, and there are situations where a lead is legally required. [gov.uk]

Key rules:

• Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) can require dogs to be on leads in specific parks, open spaces, beaches, cemeteries, or other public areas. Signs should be displayed where these rules apply. [gov.uk]
• A police officer, PCSO, or authorised council officer can require you to put your dog on a lead in an area covered by a PSPO. [gov.uk]
• If your dog is dangerously out of control, you can commit an offence whether the dog is on or off a lead. [gov.uk]
